Consultation Workshop on Algorithmic Impact Assessment

The Cyberjustice Laboratory participated in an AI consultation workshop organized by the Treasury Board of Canada, on April 11. The objective of this consultation was to test the Algorithmic Impact Assessment (AIA) tool developed by the Canadian government as part of its Directive on Automated Decision Making. This policy, which came into effect on April 1, 2019, has been fully developed in an open manner, to include the contributions of civil society. The AIA tool is a questionnaire for assessing the risks associated with the implementation of algorithms within the government system.

Canada is the first country to have this type of procedure. The Directive and the AIA tool will continue to evolve with technology and public input.
